SABA-SC and SABA-Public Interest Foundation are looking for motivated individuals to join their Boards.

SABA-SC serves as a voice for the South Asian legal community in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Our board members mentor new lawyers and law students, organize events, collaborate with other bar associations, and support the South Asian community (among other important causes). Our Board members range widely in their practices and years of experience. All are welcome to apply, and we are especially encouraging Orange County residents to apply this year for our inaugural Orange County sub-Board. Our term runs from March 2019-February 2020. SABA-PIF organizes, supports, and promotes public interest for the South Asian community. Board members are responsible for the Annual Public Interest and Installation Dinner, reviewing grant proposals, and awarding grants. Our term runs from March 2019-February 2020 (except the President Elect position which will continue until February 2021). SABA-SC PIF’s 2018-2019 Grant Recipients

SABA-SC PIF has awarded financial grants to the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (AP3CON), the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Greater Los Angeles (CAIR-LA), SATRANG, the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF), the South Asian Helpline and Referral Agency (SAHARA) and the South Asian Network (SAN).

SABA-SC Supports the APA Holiday Toy Drive

SABA-SC co-sponsored the annual APA Community Holiday Toy Drive, which took place on December 6 at the Japanese American National Museum. The Toy Drive collected over 2,000 toys for local non-profit organizations. More than 550 people participated in this great cause.

Meet Our Board

Shane Hapuarachy

Shane Hapuarachy is the newest partner at Cheong Denove Rowell Bennett & Hapuarachy, a plaintiffs’ trial firm, where he specializes in medical malpractice, civil rights litigation, and catastrophic personal injury trial work. This is Shane’s first year on the SABA-SC board, serving as the Publications Director. Shane’s favorite SABA event is the mentorship reception because it brings together like-minded people who are all committed to each other’s success. Shane’s favorite quote is “you may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.”
