U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono Meets With Local Community Leaders

On April 21, SABA-SC participated in a lively roundtable discussion with United States Senator Mazie K. Hirono (Hawaii) and other community leaders to discuss issues impacting the Asian American community, including changes to the 2020 Census, immigration, and voting.

SABA-SC Celebrates KABA’s 38th Annual Installation Dinner

On May 11, SABA-SC attended the Korean American Bar Association’s 38th Annual Installation Dinner. Congratulations to KABA’s 2018-2019 Board of Directors!

Member Spotlight

Gagan Vaideeswaran

Gagan Vaideeswaran is an employment lawyer at Bremer Whyte Brown & O’Meara. Her practice focuses on representing and counseling employers regarding the hiring process, wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, disability accommodations, privacy in the workplace, and wage and hour issues. Gagan has been on SABA-SC’s Board of Directors for the past five years, and currently serves as SABA-SC’s Secretary. Her favorite SABA-SC events are the Orange County networking mixers. Gagan helps organize these mixers and enjoys bringing the South Asian legal community together near her hometown of Huntington Beach. In her free time, Gagan enjoys spending time with her family, traveling the world, and volunteering with animal rescue organizations.

SABA-SC Partners with SABA North America to Host Citizenship Information Clinic

SABA North America will be hosting its first nationwide Naturalization Drive on May 19. This drive is intended to assist eligible South Asians with U.S citizenship. In partnership with SABA North America, SABA-SC will be holding a citizenship information clinic along with the South Asian Network and SAHARA. The clinic will include presentations about the path for citizenship and provide a free review of naturalization applications. Volunteers should contact Pooja Patel (poojapatel89@gmail.com).

Prior immigration law experience not required! Please help us spread the word and share information about the clinic with anyone in need of citizenship assistance.

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, APABA will be presenting a program entitled Empowering Our True Selves for Success: Recognizing and Overcoming Race-Based Implicit Bias in the Workplace. The program will feature panelists Cyndie M. Chang, Los Angeles Office Managing Partner of Duane Morris LLP; Annette W. Wong, Mindfulness Coach and Co-Host of Break Form Podcast; John Kim, M.A., LMFT, Psychotherapist and Life Coach; and Thomas Sy, Ph.D., Professor at UC Riverside. The panelists will discuss implicit bias issues and provide tools for overcoming such bias. Food will be provided. This program is qualified for 1.5 hours of Elimination of Bias MCLE credit.
