Who We Are

SABA-SC is one of the oldest and largest South Asian bar associations in the country. SABA-SC is dedicated to the advancement and development of South Asian attorneys as well as attorneys interested in issues affecting the South Asian community. SABA-SC strives to promote the professional development of South Asian lawyers and law students, educate the community about relevant legal issues, expand and enhance business and professional opportunities for South Asians, increase the participation of South Asians in civic affairs and government, facilitate the exchange of ideas and information, and foster goodwill, fellowship and unity among the community.

SABA-SC was founded by a small group of dynamic and dedicated South Asian attorneys, including Navneet S. Chugh, Anju Multani, Sreedhar Reddy, Yetur Madhu Kalra, Paul Saghera, Ajay A. Patel and Mona Patel-Sikora. Since its inception, SABA-SC has formed partnerships with local social service agencies and other SABA chapters nationwide. SABA-SC has created a non-profit Public Interest Foundation staffed exclusively by volunteers, raised over $100,000 and awarded grants to numerous agencies and law students who provided services to our local community. SABA-SC has created a successful Mentor-Mentee Program to support law students and young attorneys, and was recently recognized by State Bar of California President Holly Fujie as one having one of the best mentorship programs in the state for minority bar associations. SABA-SC uses its Judicial Evaluation Committee to support practitioners seeking assistance with the judicial appointment process. SABA-SC is a member organization of the Multicultural Bar Alliance, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles (“APABA-LA”), the North American South Asian Bar Association (“NASABA”) and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (“NAPABA”), and hosted the first ever NASABA National Conference in 2004.

SABA-SC has successfully hosted events with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Judicial Appointments Secretary, Sharon Majors-Lewis, William Kopeny, head of the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (“JNE Commission”), former and current State Bar of California presidents, including the 84th president Holly Fujie less than one week after she was sworn in, and various panel presentations from distinguished members of the legal community.
