Job Information
LAFLA (The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles) is seeking a Hindi-speaking staff attorney in family and immigration law for their Long Beach office. This attorney will be providing much-needed legal services to South Asian community members in the Artesia/Cerritos area and will therefore be of great assistance to SAN and other organizations striving to meet the needs of our community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active membership in the California State Bar;
  • Litigation experience in State or Federal Court and preferably in family law or immigration proceedings;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family law and/or immigration law preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with people from diverse cultures with tact and sensitivity;
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving Asian/Pacific Islander (API)  immigrant communities; and
  • Bilingual in an Asian language required (Khmer or Hindi preferred).

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Maintains an open caseload in the areas of family law and immigration law;
  • Organizes and coordinates community education and outreach activities regarding LAFLA services to API communities in the greater Los Angeles area;
  • Identifies significant legal needs and issues facing API immigrant communities and develops plans, including litigation and other advocacy, to address those needs and issues;
  • Supervises intake conducted through API language lines and at legal clinics at various locations, including courthouses and community-based organizations; and
  • In conjunction with the Pro Bono Coordinator, recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer attorneys and law students.

 

PROBATIONARY PERIOD – A one year probationary period will be required.
