EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES - Summer 2008

The Honorable Oswald Parada, United States Magistrate Judge, Central District of California, Eastern Division at Riverside, will entertain externship applications for the time period noted above. Applicants should be second or third year law students, or recent graduates awaiting bar results. Externs will research cases and statutes; analyze and summarize case files; review habeas petitions, social security appeals, and civil rights actions; draft memorandum opinions, and reports and recommendations; cite-check orders and opinions; maintain the library; and provide related assistance as needed.

Preferred applicants will have superior analytical and writing skills as demonstrated by, but not limited to, one or more of the following:

• membership on a law journal;
• high standing in law school class;
• high standing in a legal research and writing course or appellate advocacy class;
• previous employment which required significant amount of analysis and writing;
• completion of a thesis or dissertation;
• experience which is equivalent to one of the above items, or which demonstrates superior analytical and writing skills
