Dear Members,

SABA-SC kicked off the 2011-2012 term with a bang!

We start this month still basking in the excitement from our Inaugural Starry Night Installation Reception, held on October 20, 2011. The reception was a phenomenal success and a milestone in SABA-SC’s growth. With over 200 people in attendance celebrating the trailblazers and leaders of our community , such as our honorees-Pankit Doshi and Manohar Wadhwa, this event reflected the significant strides in our legal community over these last several years.

We would personally like to thank everyone who supported this event and made it possible, including you all – our members-at-large – our sponsors, the board of SABA-SC’s Public Interest Foundation, SABA-SC’s Advisory Board, and most of all, our hard-working and dedicated SABA-SC Board members who worked tirelessly in organizing this incredible event.

The installation follows on the heels of the successful SABA-SC sponsored Supreme Court review with Dean Chemerinsky at the UC Irvine School of Law.  With two major events behind us, now is not the time to grow complacent. We want to build on our momentum and continue to provide our members with access to meaningful events, including substantive programs, co-sponsored events with other local bar associations, and our monthly community spotlight mixers, where attorneys can informally network and learn about the work of a great non-profit in the local community.

We hope that membership in SABA-SC will continue to provide tangible benefits to you and we welcome feedback from all of our members and the community at large.

Sincerely,

Salil Bali & Fred Thiagarajah
SABA-SC Co-Presidents

A Successful Starry Night Reception and Awards Ceremony!

Starry Night

SABA-SC hosted its inaugural Starry Night Reception and Awards Ceremony, a celebration recognizing the accomplishments, contributions and leadership of South Asian attorneys in Southern California. The event took place at the scenic Target Terrace above the Grammy Museum at the L.A. Live Complex on Thursday October 20, 2011.

More than 200 guests attended the reception, including attorneys from law firms, in-house counsel, judges, and business leaders. At the reception, the newest board members of the SABA-SC and the SABA-SC’s Public Interest Foundation took their oaths of office, administered by the Hon. Judge Dolly Gee of U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

SABA-SC also formally announced the recipients of the 2011 Young Luminary and Radiant Counsel Awards at the reception. Mr. Pankit Doshi, who recived the 2011 Young Luminary award, is an associate at Jackson Lewis, LLP.  Mr. Manohar Wadhwa, the 2011 Radiant Counsel awardee, serves as Asst. General Counsel at Xerox Corp.

Guests enjoyed breathtaking city views of Downtown Los Angeles, food catered by Wolfgang Puck, the soulful jazz vocals of Dheepa Chari, and the eclectic beats of DJ Itesh as they danced and celebrated a special night under the stars!
