2011-2012 EXECUTIVE BOARD

 

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The South Asian Bar Association of Southern California (SABA-SC) is pleased to announce its 2011-2012 Executive Board. This year’s board will be led by Co-Presidents Salil Bali and Fred Thiagarajah, both of whom have long-standing commitments to the South Asian legal community.
 
Salil’s involvement with the community began during law school when he served as the President of the North American South Asian Law Student Association (“NASALSA”). Since then, Salil has served as a member of the National Conference Committee for the North American South Asian Bar Association’s (NASABA) 2007 national conference in San Francisco and as an executive board member of SABA-SC for the past two years. Salil is currently an Intellectual Property litigator at Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth.
 
Fred began his involvement with the South Asian legal community while he was a Deputy District Attorney in Santa Clara County. Since moving to Southern California and launching his own criminal defense firm, Fred has Co-Chaired NASABA’s Criminal Law committee and served as the President of SABA-SC’s Public Interest Foundation—SABA-SC’s non-profit arm. Fred has also served on SABASC’s executive board for the past two years.
 
Joining Salil and Fred as directors on this year’s executive board are: Teddy Kapur—President Elect; Nikhil Ramnaney—Treasurer; Kalpana Srinivasan & Supreeta Sampath—Co-Secretaries; Reshma Tolani—Membership Director; and Kiran Sharma—Outreach Director. The board is completed by this year’s Committee Chairs who include: Asha Greenberg—Legislative Chair; Hon. Upinder Kalra—Judicial Liaison; Ravi Bendapudi—Judiciary Chair; Ashok Tripathi—In-House Counsel Chair; Sarina Saluja—Litigation Chair; Ananda Sen—Entertainment Law Chair; Neha Mehta—Criminal Law Chair; Dilveer Vahali—Law Student Representative; and Jehan Jayakumar & Sandeep Shah—Orange County Co-Chairs.
 
As one of the oldest and largest South Asian Bar Associations in the country, SABA-SC is dedicated to the advancement and growth of the South Asian bar and community, as well as the greater legal and cultural community of Southern California. The organization has a long-standing history of involvement with civil rights issues, community service, and education. SABA-SC strives to promote the professional development of South Asian lawyers and law students, educate the South Asian community about relevant legal issues, increase the participation of South Asians in civic affairs and government, facilitate the exchange of ideas and information, and foster goodwill, fellowship, and unity among the greater Southern California community.
 
In the upcoming year, the 2011-2012 Executive Board aims to promote the participation and leadership of South Asian lawyers, bridge stronger ties with the broader legal community, and develop itself as a resource for minority communities across Southern California.
